RESUMO
In cardiac surgery teamwork is essential. Our physicians and pediatricians in the role of cardiologist cooperate very closely with us in the diagnosis and selection of our cases and their clinical diagnosis has proved correct at operation in every single case. Expert anaesthesia is vital; very careful pre-operative care with the help of the dental surgeon and the physiotherapist is carried out. A good knowledge and experience in the management of cardiac arrest is necessary. We operated on our first case in 1955 and have done 25 cases since then with four deaths. Our series is small for various reasons. Here is an analysis of our 25 cases -: 3 cases of patent ductus arteriosus (1 death); 3 cases of the tetralogy of Fallot (2 deaths); 19 cases of mitral stenosis (1 death). The results in the last group were classed as good, very good or excellent in 62 percent and fair in 28 percent(AU)
